mahogany bay, roatan

We had an exciting excursion planned for today in Roatan, Honduras.  We were going on a Birds, Pirates and Monkeys Excursion at a nearby park.

At the port, we could see the remains of a large boat that we think was pushed to the shore during Hurricane Mitch in 1998.

Bennett taking care of some important business before we get on the bus for our excursion.

We are on the bus.

The excursion turned out to be a lot of fun.  After a brief break and introduction at the park we were off to see the sights.  This tree starts out with two trunks which grown into one over the years.

Of course, Bennett found a root that he could pull on from the ground.

First, we went into an insectorium to see some of the most amazing variety of insects I have ever seen.  We learned that there are about 1,000,000 known species named while there are 30,000-3,000,000 that are yet to be named and discovered.

Second, we crossed a very narrow tree bridge to get to the parrots.

This parrot was very old.  He was hanging by us all by his lonesome.  We were told not to approach him because he wasn't people trained and could bite.

So Bennett had to try and touch him.

We took some pictures with a nice bird that didn't bite.  Bennett was not impressed with him though.

Lastly, we made it to the monkeys.  This was so fun!  The monkeys would jump on people's heads and shoulders and hang out there until they got bored and moved on to the next guy.

Bennett was loving this.  He was so curious and wanted to touch the monkeys so bad.

He got scared only once when another monkey surprised him by jumping on his head.

I really enjoyed the monkeys too.  They were very light and soft and cute.

I think the monkeys' favorite thing to do was hair style.  They did such a good job with Cait and her mom.

This is my favorite excursion on the cruise.  I want a monkey!  I wanted to hang there longer but the monkeys had more people to entertain.  We got back to the boat and spent the time hanging in Rob and Sue's room before dinner.  This is the serious balcony crew.

It was another great day.  Only one more stop left before we had home.
