labor day

We are having a small BBQ today with some of my co-workers and my ex-manager.  When we worked together we were all very close, but now with kids and different jobs we don't get to see each other as often.  My mom and Bennett spent the morning busy playing while I worked on getting the party set-up.  It was a huge help.  I can get things done so much faster when I don't have a little shadow asking for things every 5 minutes.  Bennett enjoyed his snack in Grandma's lap this morning.

Bennett, who got up at his normal time of 7 AM, surprised us.  We thought for sure he would sleep in today due to the combination of lack of sleep and the busy day he had yesterday.  He rallied until lunch when he passed out in the middle of eating his pb&j.  It's about time!  I didn't want him to be tired and cranky when people showed up for the BBQ.

He slept for two hours and woke up right before we were about to eat.  After lunch we played outside with a beach ball and ladder golf.  Carrie found a frog and everyone gather round for a closer look.

The little critter kept jumping away.

Bennett was very amused.

It was so hot out!  We were all sweaty after a while and needed some water, shade and dessert.  I made a chocolate brownie heath bar trifle which we finished.  I couldn't believe it! We have had many bigger parties where I made this dessert and we still had left overs.  All the outdoor activity made us extra hungry.

The kids were ready to go back out right after dessert and play again.  But, we put our feet down and stayed in for a few minutes catching up.

Everyone was going to work or school in the morning so we wrapped things up.  It was so much fun seeing everyone and spending some quality time with our friends.

We cleaned up for a while before spending the rest of the evening relaxing.  Bennett got to watch a movie with Grandma.

Grandma is leaving tomorrow and we are going to miss her very much.  We had a lovely weekend and I wish we could have long weekends like this all the time.

  1. I love your porch. I would sit there and eat a whole trifle too. I'm glad you had a good day with good friends!

  2. So nice of you to host the BBQ! I'm glad Bennett got his nap in before the friends came (too bad he didn't finish his lunch though, lol). The truffle sounds amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if anything you made was eaten to the last bite ;)
