southwick's zoo

We went to the zoo today with auntie Shay.  It is Winston's first trip to the zoo.  I doubt Bennett remembers his previous trips here either.  We saw the birds and turtles first.

The cheetah was ready to pounce on the cattle in the very next cage.  I felt bad for the cheetah because that was never going to happen.

The giraffe were fun to see.  On weekends they let you touch the giraffe.  We were sad we didn't have the opportunity to do that today.

Auntie Shay and B coordinated today.

Bennett enjoyed playing with the rocks next to the giraffe's cage more than looking at them.

We walked through the deer forest.  Here we could have touched and fed the deer which are plentiful.

There were a lot of monkeys to see.  This chimpanzee was dressed up in a red t-shirt I am assuming for Independence Day.

The small monkeys are my favorite.

There were a lot of camp groups at the zoo.  They were enjoying looking at the animals like us.

I was sad we couldn't see any lions because they were hiding.  I guess this bench will have to do as a substitute for today.

Next time we will have to do a camel ride.

Rhinos are so big!  They are really interesting.  Their closest living relatives are tapirs, horses and zebra.  Their horns are made of keratin.  A group of rhinos is called a crash.  The white rhino is the largest land mammal after the elephant.  World Rhino Day is celebrated September 22.

All the walking made us hungry for some lunch.  Bennett was very good and played with his crayons and Cars coloring book.

Winston woke up and quietly sat in my lap.  I am a lucky Mom to have such well behaved kids.

We love trips to the zoo.  I hope we can come back again soon.
