basement play room

We are finally finished with the basement make over from a candle factory into a storage/play room.  We were really close before Winston's unexpected arrival but we needed to add some decorative touches before we could call it a day.  We pressed hard to finish the week Nick was home for paternity leave.  The pictures start at the bottom of the stairs and continue counterclockwise around the room.

I painted the airplane above the couch by hand.

I love the reading nook with the bird cages and dragonfly string lights.

I hope the boys enjoy reading for many hours here.

The transportation theme really fits in with the industrial look of the basement.  The ceiling is too low for us to finish so I tried to pull it in as part of the charm of the play room.

The small entry way to the left of the couch is useful for shoe and coat storage.  I am hoping to build a sand box outside the door for the boys to use.

Nick made a lot of the decorations around the room himself such as this wall frame and the chicken wire frames.

We found this bench at the Crompton Collective in Worcester.  They have a great collection of antique dealers under one roof.  I could spend all my time and money there.

Nick was happy to set up his fish tank again.  I was happy because it fit in with the decor so well.  It's perfect as a wall divider and a backdrop for the boats.

The wood palette baskets are perfect for storage and hiding things.

Bennett has not played much down here yet but we hope he and his brother enjoy many hours of fun here once the weather cools down.
