chowder cook-off

We drove to Newport, RI today.  It is one of out favorite places to visit in the summer.  There is an ample amount of beautiful sightseeing to do in town and outside of town plus there are multiple gorgeous beaches nearby.  The possibilities of things to do here are endless.  The best part is Kilwin's Fudge and Ice Cream which is a must when visiting Newport.  They have the best fudge and ice cream around.  We are going there later after the Chowder cook-off at Fort Adams State Park.

Bennett did not waste any time climbing and exploring the park on our way to the venue.

We were excited to try unlimited amounts of chowder from the 8 vendors competing.  There were also a few stands offering all sorts of delicious seafoods to eat as well as RI favorites like Kettle Corn and Del's Lemonade.

The lobster roll was one of the best I have ever had.

Fort Adams is America's largest coastal fortress located at the mouth of Newport Harbor, offering panoramic views of the harbor and Narragansett Bay.

The views and weather were gorgeous.  The chowders were delicious but all very different.  Some were traditional while some were unique.  Our favorite was the chicken and spicy sausage chowder.

Bennett tried Del's Lemonade for the first time.  He loved it and ended up eating most of Daddy's.

Look whom we ran into at the cook-off.

Bennett was excited and afraid of the giant oyster at the same time.

Winston had a good time.  He slept through all the festivities soundly.  It was a great time and we are glad we got to go.
