the butterfly place

This morning we decided to head to The Butterly Place in Westford, MA for some warmth from the cold and snowy weather of this winter.  It's not that close but it was well worth it.  The butterflies are in a large heated domed garden.  We had a lot of room to roam around and enjoy the 80 degree weather and the numerous butterflies.

Some of them are hard to see mixed in with the plants but we saw a lot of them around these milkweed plants.

These brown butterflies are attracted to the bananas.  I think if I were a butterfly I would be also hanging out in that bowl.

There are also small birds running around the garden.  Here Bennett and daddy were able to get a good glimpse of one of them running across the path.

In the meantime, I was trying to catch the elusive blue butterflies.  I though they were the most colorful and beautiful butterflies there.  They moved fast and didn't hang out for long on any plant.  I had a hard time getting a good picture.

The entrance with a message.

Finally I got a good picture of one of the blue butterflies!

We were all having a great time but Bennett wanted to get down so we risked it.  He did really well though and we were happy to let him have some time to stretch his legs.

Below are the cocoons of the butterflies growing inside while some are hatching.  It takes them about a minute to hatch but they develop in the cocoon for about a month.

  3. I love butterfly places and I think my Grandmother took me to this exact place when I was young! It was in Western Massachusetts any way. I'll have to ask my dad. Great pictures and I'm glad you enjoyed the indoor warmer temperatures too!
