first fever

This morning Bennett woke up on the wrong side of the bed.  He was very cranky and whiny.  He didn't have a temperature so we got him ready and to day care as usual.  But, in the early afternoon I got a phone call from Jeanne that Bennett had a fever.  He had a temperature over 100.

I had no idea what to do since he really hasn't been sick until now.  I stormed out of work and called my pediatrician, who was way calmer than I expected.  They had recommended a couple of things to keep him comfortable and a medicine to help with the fever.  We were going in the next day for an appointment but were waiting it out tonight.  It's really tough watching him be miserable and have no means of helping.  He has no appetite and was very clingy but he still slept great through the night.

The next day the doctor examined him.  He must have picked up something viral because his lungs, ears and throat were all clear.  We would have to wait it out.  At day care he was happy only when he was swinging.  I was surprised because he really didn't like the swing when he was a baby.

He was miserable the rest of the week.  It is the best relief when he finally felt better!  We knew it as soon as he ate an entire banana, a bunch of goldfish and a yogurt for breakfast.  I never want him to get sick again.

  1. Indeed it is so hard when our kid is sick and there is not much we can do about it. I'm glad he didn't need prescription drugs though and that he got better on his own! Funny, how you always know when they are feeling better and eat up a storm. Thank goodness for the help of the swing during his sick days :) He sure does play in the cutie league ;)
