halloween

It's Halloween!  This year for Halloween Bennett and Winston are dressing up as a monkey and a banana.  Bennett was afraid of his costume even though we had it out for a couple of weeks.  So, we improvised and bought him all brown clothing and a monkey hat.  Here are the boys before they transform.

My monkey and his banana.

Bennett really enjoyed trick-o-treating.  He was not sure what he was supposed to do at first.  The first house we went to in our neighborhood was the Murphy's.  They live across the street.  He thought we were supposed to go in.

By the second and third house he picked up on the fact that we just take candy and leave.  He was practically running for the front door after that.

There is one house on our street that goes all out when it comes to Halloween decorations.  They have a lot of different props out complete with smoke and sound effects.  Bennett was fascinated.

We stayed out for an hour and then went home for an hour to give out candy.  I think Bennett would have kept going.  I was surprised how much he enjoyed handing out candy.  He would run up to the door when we told him kids were coming.  Then he would grab a candy bar and drop it into the kids buckets.

Some of the costumes he found scary so he would back away candy in hand from the kids and confuse them.

He was really good about not eating the candy himself.  He started to say "Happy Halloween! Trick-o-treat" to the kids approaching the door by the end of the night.  I am looking forward to next year!  Happy Halloween.

road crafts

Bennett brought home some really cool crafts this week.

Both of these are perfect for the downstairs play room.  Great job Bennett!

beer

We are back at Rob and Sue's this weekend to brew some beer.

Nothing goes better with beer than pulled pork... Yum!

The kids had the best time playing together.  Bennett did really well sharing his train set with Nolan.

And, of course he gave out plenty of hugs and kisses.

jack-o-lantern spectacular

Tonight we spent at Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island. Every year they set up a huge display of illuminated carved pumpkins. The weather couldn't be better if we had asked for it.

Winston and Bennett are excited to go in and check out all of the pumpkins.

The elephants were out on our walk over to the displays.

Bennett really enjoyed looking at all the pumpkins.  They kept his attention enough that he stayed in his stroller the entire time (which is unusual for him).  He would point certain pumpkins out.  Usually those with pictures he recognized and say: "Wow, cool!"

These pumpkins amaze with their detail and size.  It's unbelievable these are all hand-carved.

King Kong.

There are a lot of people here tonight.  It's literally a river of people flowing through a narrow tunnel.  It makes it hard to stop and take pictures or to stop at all.

Fish.

All of the displays had a theme.  There were at least 50 different themes including Sleepy Hollow, Sound of Music, Disney and the Beatles.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Frankenstein.

Dracula.

There are too many pictures to take.  I gave up taking pictures and just enjoyed the showing.  It was our first time visiting the Zoo for this event.  We will be coming back next year.  Bennett really enjoyed it and I think Winston will too.
